The Benefits of Same-Day Crowns: Efficiency Meets Quality

The Benefits of Same-Day Crowns: Efficiency Meets Quality

Dental crowns are a dental prosthetic that caps and covers the entire exposed portion of a tooth. A dental crown is one of the most versatile and useful options for tooth repair and severe cavity repair. Whether a tooth has been weakened or significantly damaged as a result of injury, decay, or another oral health issue, a dental crown is often the only treatment that can save a patient's natural tooth and prevent the need for extraction.

What Are Same-Day Crowns?

Available at the Center for Cosmetic & General Dentistry as a part of our comprehensive restorative dental care services, same-day dental crowns are similar to traditional dental crowns. However, treatment with a same-day crown can be completed in one visit to the dental office.

Same-day crowns use CEREC (chairside economical restoration of esthetic ceramics) technology that combines thorough digital imaging tools, powerful software, and precision milling machines to design, manufacture, and place permanent 100% ceramic dental crowns during a single office visit.

The Benefits of Same-Day CEREC Crowns

Same-day crowns offer several benefits and advantages:

  • Fast and Convenient - The primary benefit of same-day crowns is that the treatment is quick and convenient. With traditional dental crowns, patients would need to visit the dental office for two separate appointments (one appointment for preparing the tooth and designing the crown and a second appointment for placing the crown). With same-day CEREC technology, patients complete their entire treatment plan in a single visit.
  • Simple Treatment Process - The same-day CEREC treatment process is simple and easy. A digital, intraoral scanner eliminates the need to take messy, physical dental impressions using trays and dental putty for the construction of a physical mouth mold. Instead, we simply scan the patient's teeth and gums before using the three-dimensional image and data to design a virtual model and personalized blueprint for the patient's crown.
  • No Need for an Uncomfortable Temporary Crown - With traditional crowns, patients would need to wear a generic, temporary crown while waiting for their permanent crown to be manufactured at an outside dental laboratory. Since same-day crowns are milled on a precision machine inside our office, there's no need to wear an ill-fitting, uncomfortable temporary crown for any period of time.
  • Natural Looking - Same-day crowns are made with luminous ceramic that is dyed to blend in with the patient's natural teeth and achieves a slightly translucent appearance that is similar to natural tooth enamel.
  • Durable and Long-Lasting - Same-day dental crowns are made of high-quality, medical-grade ceramic that lasts an average of 10 to 15 years with good oral hygiene and care. With exceptional care, they can last for multiple decades.

Do Same-Day Crowns Have any Drawbacks?

Same-day dental crowns offer lots of benefits and advantages. Whether they are the right treatment for you will depend on your specific oral health history and treatment needs. For example, if a patient has bruxism or a tooth that might be subject to excess pressure, the patient might require a stronger dental prosthetic option, such as a crown made of porcelain fused to metal.

Our dentist can talk with you about your treatment needs and the benefits and drawbacks of all possible treatment options before helping you determine which is best for you.

How Much Do Same-Day Crowns Cost?

On average, a same-day crown costs between $1,000 to $1,500, depending on the tooth and specific materials used to create the crown. This price is fairly similar to that of traditional crowns. Most dental insurance plans provide coverage for treatment with same-day CEREC dental crowns.

Our office can provide you with an estimate of your treatment costs and help you navigate your dental insurance to better anticipate the total cost of your dental treatment plan.
